Hack prides himself on “un-Googleable” cultural immersions—church tours through secret entrances, exclusive access to artisans’ workshops—to give travelers an insider look at the Iberian peninsula.
With more than two decades of experience, Madrid-based Hack is passionate about connecting with local communities. He can introduce travelers to leading equestrians in Córdoba, art restorers in Seville, and world-renowned chefs in San Sebastián.
“I’ve always sought to incorporate the best guides and most intriguing local characters, and this sentiment has only increased over the years as my network has expanded,” he says. “Sometimes the most unassuming individuals, from an Asturian shepherd to a Galician fisherman, can share some of the most fascinating tales.”
For one couple passionate about art and history, he provided insider access to ‘pazos’ (local manor houses) and wineries in Galicia, in Northern West Spain. “At one of those wineries (built in the XVII century) the owner welcomed our guests and showed them around the premises, indicating where a former King of Portugal had found refuge during troubled times,” he says. “Most of the pieces of furniture in those manors are centuries old.”

“I had the good fortune to work closely with Nigel Hack and his Madrid & Beyond to create a wonderful two-week family experience in Spain. Our time in Spain was originally planned for Spring Break 2020. In the fog of the early COVID days, Nigel was in regular communications with us, initially to shift our plans to ensure our safety and enjoyment and then to transparently and honestly recommend we postpone our visit. When we were finally able to plan a summer 2021 trip, Nigel graciously re-crafted our itinerary to make the most of the new season. He was always accessible, enthusiastic, honest, and knowledgable in the planning stage. Once we arrived to Spain, he continued to be very accessible, checking in with us at appropriate times along the way and quickly helping us solve any travel glitches we encountered. We engaged with several of Nigel’s local guides as we traveled throughout the country. They were all highly dependable, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic about their local region….just the best! The accommodations and experiences that Nigel set up for us reflected that he really listened and understood our wishes. We feel like we really got to know Spain, its culture, food, landscapes, and people in ways that simply would not have been possible without Nigel’s wise and expert guidance. We will most certainly call on him anytime we return to the region.”- Katie O.
